About Us

Hey Y'all! My name is Carrie. In 2014, my mid-life crisis arrived. I had enough of city living. I desired to start living a more wholesome, natural, healthy lifestyle. Less chemicals, less processed stuff. So I went on the search for a little slice of land to call my own. I found that piece of heaven about an hour north of Tampa, in a beautiful, hilly Brooksville, FL.

And Red Phoenix Farm was born. Red, because, well, I'm a red head. The Phoenix is a mythological creature that continually is reborn and rises from the ashes. I had just gotten out of an abusive relationship and recovered from a very serious illness. Thus, the Phoenix.

The farm started with 2 dogs, and some chickens. Farm fresh eggs, YUMMY! I highly recommend you try them. Chickens are pretty easy to care for, I knew I could handle more and I was pretty sure I wanted a couple of goats. After all, it's a farm, aren't there supposed to be animals? So, I searched Google and bought several books about goats. Yep, I definitely wanted some goats.

Enter Mazzy and Mable, 8 month old sister Nigerian Dwarf goats. Goats have great personalities and are truly enjoyable to be around. After a stressful day at my "real" job, there is nothing more relaxing than hanging out with some goats. They are quite amusing. In order for a goat to give you milk, they have to have kids. and once the girls were a year old, a male suitor came to visit. And 5 months later, I had 5 baby goats. There really is nothing cuter than a bouncing baby goat. And that is how the goat infestation began!! I now have 27.

Milking took some practice for me and the girls but eventually, we figured it out, and the milk started to flow. At first, my intention was to make fresh cheese, and I failed miserably at that.  Subsequent attempts were also epic fails. So I had to figure out what to do with all of that delicious white liquid, well, besides drink it. More research and I decided to give soap making a try.  My first batch was a basic lavender soap.  It turned out pretty good, and I was hooked.

I have since met a wonderful new partner to share my life. Don is a great guy and he enthusiastically helps around the farm. I am so thankful for that because FarmLife, although very rewarding, is A LOT of work. With his love, support, and encouragement, The Playful Goat Soap Company was created.

I have always had an artistic side. I like to draw, paint, and create things. I even did tattoos for a little while. Soaping is allowing me to tap into my creative side while providing a chemical free, beautiful product that I am honored to share with others.
